CONNECTION IS EVERYTHING
Be deeply present with people, immerse yourself in nature, get curious about your body and listen to the intelligence it offers. Quiet your mind and embrace your intuition. With an open heart, I hope to make small changes in how we care for our bodies, birth our babies, nurture our children and support our mothers.
Bodywork is the foundation of my practice. I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist for over two decades. My training at Swedish Institute in NYC exposed me to an alternative world of ancient wisdom, modalities, teachers and healers. I am constantly learning, evolving and integrating through both giving and receiving bodywork.
My early education was as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. With a focus in pediatrics, I worked in rehabilitation, hospital and school settings including Burke Rehabilitation, Saint Agnes Children’s Rehabilitation and Blythedale Children’s Hospitals. Later, I became a teacher and care-giver with the youngest 2’s and 3’s in a nature and play-based setting at the Lindgren School. I am continuously devoted to the role of supporting and nurturing families with babies and young children.
During fertility struggles in my mid-twenties, I channelled all of my energy (and grief) into learning bodywork for the childbearing cycle and infant massage. It was at this moment that the fire was ignited in me about what undisturbed physiological birth could look like. I was in awe.
Blessed later with two beautiful daughters; Gretchen was born in hospital, induced after months of fertility treatments. Stella was conceived naturally, an undisturbed water birth at home. These very different birth journeys have prepared me to be deeply present to hold space for others.
I completed the Holistic Doula Program with The Matrona Foundation under elder midwife Whapio Diane Bartlett. I am an active member of the Intentional Birth Community of doulas and engage in trainings and workshops often, including Body Ready Method.
I believe that birth should be centered around the mother-baby and trusting that she holds the deepest wisdom within her. I specialize in supporting families who desire a non-medicalized birth experience and those who wish to make informed decisions along the way. Research and evidence is valuable, but so is honoring generations of tradition, physiology and intuition.
I am called to this work with genuine passion and profound respect.
XO love, Catherine
